Legislative Alert – Builders Must Send a Message to Congress NOW!

BUILDERS MUST SEND A MESSAGE TO CONGRESS NOW:

THE ECONOMY WON’T IMPROVE UNTIL CONGRESS ADDRESSES HOUSING

CALL 1-866-924-NAHB (6242)

With Congress focused on health care before lawmakers adjourn for their month-long August recess, lawmakers need to be sent an urgent message now – Don’t forget about housing!

To help put America back to work and revive today’s lackluster economy, we need you to contact your Representative and Senators and urge them to:

·         Extend and enhance the $8,000 home buyer tax credit.

·         Improve acquisition, development and construction (AD&C) credit conditions.

·         Correct appraisal practices that are unnecessarily driving down home values.

·         Co-sponsor NOL relief bills H.R. 2452 in the House and S. 823 in the Senate.

·         Stimulate Low Income Housing Tax Credit investment.

Adoption of these proposals would create jobs and have a very positive impact on the overall economy and housing market.  The best way to accelerate the economic recovery and create jobs is to stimulate housing activity.  Three new jobs are created for every new home that is built.  For example, an increase of 200,000 housing starts in 2010 over current levels would generate:

·         600,000 new jobs;

·         Nearly $30 billion in wages; and

·         $17.8 billion in combined federal, state and local tax revenue.

Our success in this endeavor is entirely contingent on YOU GETTING INVOLVED.

We must make our voice heard loud and clear. The only way to succeed is for a committed and comprehensive effort from our entire grassroots.

The broadcasters, auto dealers, financial institutions and insurance companies have launched an all-out blitz on Capitol Hill seeking aid for their industries. Now it’s our turn.

With Congress set to adjourn shortly, time is of the essence. Start NOW by calling your members of Congress at 1-866-924-NAHB (6242) and urging them to:

·         Extend and enhance the $8,000 home buyer tax credit.

·         Improve acquisition, development and construction (AD&C) credit conditions.

·         Correct appraisal practices that are unnecessarily driving down home values.

·         Co-sponsor NOL relief bills H.R. 2452 in the House and S. 823 in the Senate.

·         Stimulate Low Income Housing Tax Credit investment.

Your call is the first step of what will evolve into a major campaign to build support for an aggressive legislative plan to boost housing activity, create jobs, ease the credit crunch and build confidence in today’s anemic recovery.

We ask that you keep up the momentum by arranging meetings with your members of Congress while they are at home during the August Congressional recess.  For assistance, please contact Molly Murray at mmurray@nahb.com.

Thank you for your help in this endeavor of extreme importance to the housing industry.
